Late 2007, I decided I was sick of hard water. It
furred up my kettle and other appliances, the loo's were always looking yuk
and worst of all, my hair was like straw.
I decided I
would get a water softener and was really surprised to find, after a bit of
research, there are a lot of people searching for water softeners and salt
tablets but there really isn't much to choose from on the net.
So
what did I get? I looked at cheap water softeners, electric water
softeners, twin tank water softener, meter controlled water softeners, you
name it I look it at.
Eventually I opted for a water
softener from East Midlands Water, a Twin Tank non
Electric meter controlled Water Softener.
It's early days yet but
so far I am very pleased with it. I can really feel the difference in
my hair and the amount of shampoo I use.
Finding
tablet salt for my new water
softener wasn't easy and I had to have at least 6 big bags of salt tablets,
a real pain to store, but more on that later.
So why did I go for a
twin tank water softener?
Good question. It
seemed sensible at the time. I didn't want my water softener to be
unavailable whenever it refilled and although it cost a little more I think
it was well worth it. It's a Meter Controlled Softener
and will only perform a regeneration based upon your water consumption,
making it far more efficient than most other water softeners. All EMWC
Water Softeners have a 5-year guarantee - another thing to bear in mind.
There are a lot of horror stories on the web about water softeners that
don't last long and have no spare parts readily available.
Water Softener Salt Tablets
Personally
I found Direct Salt to be the cheapest for deliveries to the East Midlands
Area. Most companies advertising salt tablets for water softeners
annoyingly will only deliver to their own surrounding area. I wasted a
lot of time with this. I have yet to see how long the 6 big bags last
but from what I've read, about 9 months. Don't let the lack of website
information put you of contacting Direct Salt. You'll find the phone
number here salt tablets for
water softeners. I'm told you can use coarse dishwasher salt in an
emergency but don't take my word for that!
Kinetico Water Softeners are probably one of the most
search for water softeners on the web. However you will not be able to
purchase your water softener direct from Kinetico. See
