BUT .....   for those of you that don't want to read through all the heavy stuff about water softeners, here's how they work in a nutshell!

How Water Softeners Work is very simple (or not depending on how deep you want to go!)

Hard water pumped in from the mains passes through a base of resin crystal beads in the water softening unit.  This then captures the lime scale along with any  minerals using an ionising process. When the resin becomes exhausted, it will be  regenerated by flushing through a salt water solution, hence the need for salt or salt tablets.
